Gaming becoming more Personable?

I've been seeing more personable identities online as of late. Was curious in this uptick from the usual online anonymity people have grasped. It used to be taboo to show your face, or reveal any kind of personal information especially on Xbox over profiles but its looking to be a norm. 

When I was climbing up ladders to compete in Halo's esports its a no brainer that at a certain level, if you appear at events for example. People are going to know your name and tie it to your face but I am seeing it more online. I don't know if the changing times are for better or for worse.

I'm not looking at anyone's profiles enough to know. That would make a great survey though to the community beyond.
