About last week the Halo Community over 'X' saw a disparaging and bequeathing assault on Halo HQ for using AI art in promotional material of an effort to tie multiple communities together. Halo HQ staff responded, doubled down on a few and lost grounds to the Halo Art community which did not stand as long engaging fans for the artwork created. This artwork was approved by those involved (I didn't think it was that bad) but it was completely unacceptable for a community effort where the community should come first. Halo HQ took this fall as two other organizations and owners fell back from this.

  • TopShelfCeli
  • DaLuminar

Two proponent leaders in this are absent on X but are pivotal to this effort alongside Halo HQ, the effort altogether call the United Halo Coalition (UHC).

What a name you would think for this but as these guys are clan kids it only makes sense to not understand the collaborative intentions involved in a coalition.

This efforts misstep was followed by AI quickly, in the promotional material they had added organizations and communities that did not agree to take part in this 'coalition' and a few that backed out from the backlash of using AI generated art.

Stories would soon follow all around this but the most grounded one of them all is that TopShelfCeli believed people accepting an invite to a discord server so that they can promote themselves is not grounds to represent them altogether. He quickly crashes out from the criticisms that followed which led to a brief segment on HCS Pro Talk podcast that had a high level overview of this situation.

Now where DaLuminar is involved, representing Luminon gaming; took to identifying and persecuting people with language otherwise not promoting any collaborative effort that the UHC stood on. Because he has little experience and likely does not understand economical basics around business, he alienated several communities and led them on into believing and committing to sharing his cause.

Highlighting drama at all is always distasteful, some people like it and others simply just don't have a full picture especially since users have deleted their own comments or made statements to absolve themselves of any wrong doing. Why posting it here matters at all is that its both something to discuss and learn from that should be documented, So! What can we learn from this.

  • Do not use AI art in promotional material
  • Do not associate with brands that do not support Halo is for everyone (Ascending Baseline)
  • Do not use brands and their likeness for more engagement/clicks/discord joins like Halo HQ does
  • Do not crash out when being confronted, control your emotions or build safe answers to criticism
  • Do not target and isolate individuals who don't understand your vision or goals
  • Look out for the echo chamber, people who agree with you even though you are in the wrong
  • Make a statement that is clear and concise and move on to making amends

Halo HQ with the same faces we've known for some time now will still stand today, crafting a careful statement vowing to not fall for another attempt at disserving the community. Its all a farce though because truly they supported and pushed this idea, one important detail is behind a story of staff who have left and commented on the current direction and leadership.
